Still working with the cellular-DNA-Icons, putting black paint down first, then cream, then scratching and scraping-off cream.

Experimentation

Just playing around with materials and techniques lately. I think it opens up new ideas and experimentation is a huge part of being an artist for me, doing the same thing over and over would drive me nutty. Only downfall is that I think it would be easier to sell things more consistently if everything was basically a big series instead of many different series of work.

Inspired Bloggers

Lisa Congdon does an amazing amount of stuff, an artist, illustrator, author, business woman, I'll say it again amazing! She has basically inspired me to get my blogging act together, my excuse was that I am always too busy but she does way more stuff than I do and she can do it - thanks Lisa for the inspiration! Now miss Janice La Verne Baker is someone who I actually get to see in person as well as follow her work (which I LOVE!) on her blog. Janice is an amazing artist, I love her color, figures and layers, especially the layers, drool, drool. Thanks you Janice for letting us see what you are up to, check it out here.

Cells, Icons and Bits

I have been playing around with these icon like shapes. The idea originally came from thinking about DNA, cells, little bits of information and letting my design aesthetic creep-in a little more lately.

Design influencing my paintings lately

As soon as I posted I was going to work on the blog more regularly my computer's logic board went out. Anyway thought I would share what I am working on lately –  icons representing DNA or cells in my paintings. Not sure how long this will go on but enjoy acknowledging my design aesthetic a bit.

Really gonna try this time

So I think I've said it before but this time I am really gonna try to keep up on the blog. Lisa Condon has inspired me (more on her later) and some people have not heard the news that one of my paintings is on the Mad Men set this season! (mine is the orange/black one).

Currently in the Studio

Just finished this one (oil). I am working on adding patterns in the layers.

I am playing with acrylic in order to add collage to my paintings, a challenge since I am used to oil.

Opening of "Structure" show of new painting

Had tons of fun and met some great people, even sold a few things. Overall a good night, thanks everyone.

OpusVII's Last Show and I'm it!

Yes it is sad but true OpusVII is closing in about a month but I will be having the last show there starting 3/2/12, I'll be there at starting until 5:30. The show is called "Structure" abstractions of factories, barns, blueprints and other things that are floating around in my head.

Phytoplankton Inspires Art

I am so excited about being one of the artists invited by the Arts Center in Corvallis to do a work of art based on Angelicque White's research on phytoplankton. All the pieces will be shown during the da Vinci Days. Angelicque is an assistant professor at OSU and takes amazing photos of the even more amazing microscopic plants and critters in our oceans. I'll post what I come-up with as it gets done...

New Work Inspired by Architecture

Architecturally inspired paintings by Jenny Gray in the new "Structure" series.

These new paintings are abstractions of the barns, factories and mills I encounter in rural Oregon. I am fascinated by the scale and geometry of the buildings in the open landscape. The picture plane is often flattened to focus on the angles and shapes. This series has an emphasis on line, and as in past work I continue to explore color, texture and   composition. I will be having a show of this new work at OpusVII starting March 2nd 2012.

Another Year Blogging

My New Years resolution was to make my work a little more visible, with this in mind maybe I'll start keeping this blog up to date. I have updated my website with new work too.
